About This Book
Book and CD - Standard Notation - Tablature
The diversity of Latin music is unmatched. Can any
other musical style claim to have influenced artists
as diverse as Paul Simon, Tito Puente, Los Lobos,
Dizzy Gillespie, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Buffet, Bo
Diddley, Linda Ronstadt, the Rolling Stones, Bob
Marley, and nearly every important songwriter of the
last 100 years?
Because Latin rhythms are an important part of most
popular musical styles, the ability to "play Latin" is
mandatory for any serious, first-call bass player.
There are scores of regional Latin styles, dances, and
song forms. While this book does not attempt a
detailed history of Latin music, it does impart the
skill of hearing, feeling, and playing fundamental
Latin bass lines and rhythms.
Harmonically, the patterns are arranged as simply as
possible; virtuosity is not required. Most of the patterns use only the fundamental notes (1 and 5, or 1, 3, 5) of the chord. Precise timing, and taste in application, are the keys to performing Latin rhythms.
Students and musicians at all levels of ability will
enjoy learning and playing these essential lines, which
can be played on either acoustic or electric bass.
Coil bound for your convenience.
